Food deprivation induces monocarboxylate transporter 2 expression in the brainstem of female rat.

چکیده
Ketone bodies are considered to act as a signal to suppress gonadotropin release during negative energy balance. The present study examined the effect of 48-h fasting on the mRNA expressions of monocarboxylate transporter 1 (MCT1) and MCT2, which are involved in ketone body transport, in several brain regions. Quantitative real-time RT-PCR analysis showed that the MCT2 mRNA levels were significantly increased by 48-h fasting in the area postrema-solitary tract nucleus (AP-NTS) region but not the arcuate nucleus-ventromedial hypothalamic nucleus (ARC-VMH) and central gray-supragenual nucleus around the 4th ventricle (CG-SGe) regions. Fasting did not significantly affect MCT1 mRNA expression in any of the brain areas examined. Luteinizing hormone (LH) pulse frequency significantly decreased and plasma concentrations of beta-hydroxybutyric acid, a ketone body, significantly increased after 48-h fasting. The present results suggest that increased uptake of ketone bodies via MCT2 in the AP-NTS region is likely involved in the mechanism of fasting-induced suppression of LH secretion in rats.

Changes in monocarboxylate transporter 1 and p53 gene expression by aerobic interval training in the experimental colon carcinoma of mouse
Background: Recent evidence suggests that regular exercise training is effective in treating various aspects of cancer. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine the effect of 8 weeks of aerobic interval training on monocarboxylate transporter 1 (MCT1) protein and expression of p53 gene in tumor of colon cancer mice. Methods: The present study was conducted experimentally from May ...

Background and Objective: Food deprivation increases the expression of orexin-1 receptor gene in the hypothalamus. On the other hand, food deprivation induces analgesia and orexin has a fundamental and well known role in pain modulation. This study aimed to determine the role of orexin receptor 1 antagonist in analgesic effect of acute food deprivation (12 h) by hot plate test in male rats. ...
متن کاملRAPID EYE MOVEMENT SLEEP DEPRIVATION INDUCES ACETYLCHOLINESTERASE A CTIVITY IN THE PREOPTIC AREA OF THE RAT BRAIN
Acetylcholinesterase (AchE) is a large glycoprotein that, aside from its known cholinolytic activity, co-exists with other transmitter systems and possesses other functions. In the present study, the effects of short-term rapid-eye-movement sleep deprivation (REM-SD) on AchE activity in the anterior hypothalamic area have been investigated. Using the flower-pot method, adult male albino ra...

Background and Aims: It is well-recognized that endogenous opioidergic system plays an important role in pain sensitivity, pain perception, and response to some stressing situations. The present study examined the probable role of endogenous opioidergic system in effects of food deprivation on formalin-induced nociceptive behaviors in male and female rats. Methods: To make short-term food d...
